What Spinal Stenosis Is & How Spinal Cord Stimulation Can Help

What is Spinal Stenosis?

Spinal stenosis puts pressure on the spinal cord and nerves within the spine. It commonly occurs in the neck and lower back. The condition is often caused by age-related wear and tear.

What is Spinal Cord Stimulation (SCS)?

Spinal cord stimulation uses a device called a spinal cord stimulator to deliver low voltage electric stimulation to the affected area. This stimulation is delivered through one or two wires, which are carefully placed in the epidural space adjacent to the spinal cord. SCS is performed in the operating room.

What does Spinal Cord Stimulation Accomplish?

The goal of spinal cord stimulation is to reduce rather than eliminate pain. However, pain can reduce by 50 percent or more, which can make a huge difference. Stimulation can also increase a patient’s activity level and reduce their use of narcotic medications.

Is Spinal Cord Stimulation Right For Me?

SCS is appropriate for patients with certain chronic pain conditions: neuropathic pain, failed back surgery syndrome, complex regional pain syndrome, arachnoiditis, and certain types of vascular disease.

How do I start a trial?
