Bio

Joseph Folz, DO, specializes in anesthesiology and pain medicine. He provides outstanding care to patients throughout Kentucky, Indiana, and Illinois at Commonwealth Pain and Spine. Dr. Folz strives to deliver safe, effective pain management with a personalized approach designed to address the specific needs of each patient.

Dr. Folz uses evidence-based techniques to address all types of pain conditions. His goals are to relieve pain, restore range of motion and functionality, and help patients avoid surgery and the extended use of opioid pain medication. Dr. Folz fosters a relationship with his patients based on respect and compassion and assists them in making informed choices about their own health care.

After he graduated from A.T. Still University, Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, Missouri, Dr. Folz completed his anesthesia residency at St. Louis University in St. Louis, Missouri. During his residency, he was honored to receive the Gabriel Award, nominated by attendings and faculty for outstanding performance in pediatric anesthesia. 

Dr. Folz went on to complete a fellowship in pain medicine at the University of Colorado in Denver, where he led a research team in studying the efficacy of treating patients with complex regional pain syndrome type I. He has presented research at a variety of national anesthesiology conferences.

Dr. Folz is a member of the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine and the American Society of Anesthesiologists. He is certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology.
