Arthritis Pain Treatment

Personalized Pain Management for Joint Pain Relief

There are over 100 types of arthritis, with osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis being the most common, leading to chronic pain, limited mobility, and a lower quality of life. The dual-board certified team at Commonwealth Pain & Spine provides personalized pain management plans, offering expert advice, physical therapy, and targeted injections for arthritis pain.

Who Suffers from Arthritis?

Arthritis affects nearly 40 million people in the United States, impacting people of all ages and backgrounds. The risk of developing arthritis rises if close family members have it, but other factors can also influence its onset, including:

  • Age
  • Obesity
  • Previous joint injuries

If left untreated, arthritis can progress and eventually cause a deformity in the affected joint. By seeking personalized treatment with Commonwealth Pain & Spine, you can not only find relief from daily arthritis pain, but you might also be able to slow the progression of the disease.

Types of Treatments for Arthritis Pain

Although there is no cure for arthritis, various treatments can address pain and inflammation in any joint, including your knees, hip, and shoulder. Arthritis treatments include:

  • Lifestyle Changes: Treating arthritis starts with lifestyle changes to reach a healthy weight and lessen joint pressure. Regular exercise and a healthy diet are crucial to minimizing arthritis's impact.
  • Medications: Over-the-counter and prescription medications can help reduce inflammation, swelling, and stiffness.
  • Physical Therapy: Physical therapy can ease joint stiffness, improving flexibility and range of motion.
  • Intra-Articular Injections: If traditional means don't relieve your pain, targeted medicated injections into the affected joint may provide relief.

By engaging in a tailored arthritis treatment plan, patients can experience significant relief from pain and swelling, enjoying more freedom in their daily activities.

The Process of Our Arthritis Intra-Articular Injections

While our team of dual-board certified physicians and interventional pain specialists will discuss all treatment options with our patients, intra-articular injections may be the best choice to help you manage your pain if other types of arthritis treatments haven't helped.

Here's what you can expect from our intra-articular injection services:

  • Consultation: After you complete our self-referral and we book an appointment, you’ll meet with your pain specialist to discuss your symptoms, medical history, and treatment options. They'll determine if intra-articular injections are right for you.
  • Preparation: Receive detailed instructions on preparing for your procedure, including any necessary fasting or medication adjustments.
  • Injection Procedure: Your physician will cleanse the injection site, inject a local anesthetic, and use advanced imaging technology to precisely guide the injection of corticosteroid medication into the affected joint space.
  • Recovery: Return home shortly after the procedure and resume normal activities. You may experience temporary discomfort or swelling at the injection site.
  • Results: The steroid begins working in 24 to 48 hours. The effects can last anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of months.

We'll be with you every step of the way and make sure you're comfortable throughout your procedure. Commonwealth Pain & Spine is here to give you a chance to take your life back from arthritis pain.
